Join Chicago Public Library this Fall for special Now Is The Time programming—get inspired to make a positive change in your community and stop youth violence and intolerance.
HOW LONG WILL I CRY?
In 2011 and 2012, while more that 900 people were being murdered on the streets of Chicago, students from DePaul University interviewed people whose lives have been changed forever by the bloodshed. Told by real people in their own words, the stories in the new book How Long Will I Cry? are at turns harrowing, heartbreaking and full of hope.
Celebrate the publication of How Long Will I Cry? with DePaul University professor Miles Harvey and other special guests through a series of free public programs open to teens ages 13 and older, parents, educators and community members. Each one-hour program will include Steppenwolf Theatre Company actors performing excerpts from the book alongside community members whose stories appear in How Long Will I Cry?/ Plus, Miles Harvey, his student journalists from DePaul University and social workers from NAMI will be present to facilitate a community conversation about youth violence.
MESSAGES OF HOPE: A NOW IS THE TIME WORKSHOP FOR TEENS
A Now Is the Time Project presented in partnership by Chicago Public Library Teen Volume, DePaul University and the Marilyn G. Rabb Foundation
Come to a hands-on Now Is the Time workshop, presented in partnership with the MGR Foundation, to create art that shows what YOU have to say about youth violence and intolerance in Chicago. Your creation will be added to a showcase in your library of art pieces made by Pittsburgh teens. Through MGR’s Arts in Action programs, teens from Pittsburgh have sent their artwork to Chicago as messages of hope and support. Together with them, teens in Chicago can now send the message that across the country, young people care.
